Lifetime Probability of Developing Migraine: A Novel Epidemiological Perspective Based on Global Burden of Disease Data.

Migraine is a significant health issue, affecting over one billion people globally. This research focused on the lifetime probability of developing migraines. Using Global Burden of Disease 2021 data, researchers analyzed various factors. They looked at age, sex, and location to determine risks. The study found that the overall lifetime probability of migraine was 51.53%. Women had a higher risk than men, at 59.84% compared to 41.99%. The risk varied by region, with Western Europe having a 60.58% probability. In contrast, Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa had a lower risk of 35.63%. The study also examined socioeconomic factors, showing that higher socioeconomic status correlated with a higher probability of migraines. Most people developed migraines during early and middle adulthood. Understanding these patterns can help healthcare providers better address migraine prevention and treatment strategies for different populations.
